Oct 2017. Just a place to see the Bhutan government training the locals in Bhutanese craft skills. Nothing interesting for tourists. The training is provided free by the government and saw more talking in the classroom than learning from teachers.

I loved visiting this art school. It was great to see the students working on traditional Bhutanese art. Incredibly talented students creating incredible pieces of art. Definitely go here!

I am really surprised that some people have given three stars or less to this place. This is a place where you learn to appreciate the usually overlooked skills of life. Right from silver smithing to embroidery to sculpting this institute's principles are very appreciable. I had a look at the works of the students there and it was jaw-dropping.

On our trip to Bhutan, we asked to see an art school as I love art. I have difficulty understanding the low ratings for this school. We had an amazing experience there and the traditiional art being created was beautiful. The mehods of art taught there seek to preserve the country's history. It is a school that teaches students how to replicate and repair ancient art. We learned so such about weaving with back strap looms, creating intricate embroidery, boot making, wood craving perfect repilicates, painting ancient dragons, etc. We could have stayed at the school all day instead of a half day it was so fascinating. I feel fortunate to have been able to purchased four cravings and three paintings by fifth year students to begin home.

The skills training institute is a good place to visit for the tourists to understand the bhutanese government's efforts to skill its youth. One can watch the students in action practising tailoring, brass ornament, painting and sculpture. There are different grades for each of these skills and most students learn here for 6 years and go on to establish their own businesses. The students interact with the visitors and explain the activity to the visitors if engaged. There is also a showroom where one can purchase the artefacts created by the students.

Institute of Zorig Chusum is a place where Bhutan traditional art is taught. This institute teaches 13 special types of art form. Wood carving, canvas painting, furniture painting, clay art making and different kinds of embroideries are few of the art forms you will find here. Very inspiring and keeps the tradition intact.
